Cold Laminator

What is a cold laminator and why would you need one? This is a question a lot of people ask when they are choosing a laminating machine. Yes, there is a big difference between your standard heat sealing laminator and a cold laminator. That difference is important when you need to laminate heat sensitive documents or photos.

Cold lamination is sometimes called tape lamination. It is basically the use of pressure sensitive materials that bind to the item being laminated. There are several different types of cold lamination:

• Dual sided laminating film will cover the object on both the front and back. This is great for ID badges, etc. This type of cold lamination sticks to the object on both sides so it is completely encased in the lamination.
• One sided laminating film does just as the name suggests, it only laminates one side of an object. This works great for items such as bulletin board pictures and the like that will have some kind of adhesive added to the back.
• Magnetic laminating film. This type of cold lamination will add clear lamination to one side and a magnetic finish on the other side. This is great for teachers who want to create magnets as learning aids. Businesses could also use it to create business card magnets.
